    What is Naturopathy?

The fundamental principle of Naturopathy is vis medicatrix naturae - the healing power of nature.

Naturopathy is a complete system of natural healthcare that believes the body has the wisdom and power to heal itself, if given the right conditions.

Treatment addresses the underlying CAUSE of illness, rather than simply masking the symptoms and suppressing the disease. By addressing the root cause of the imbalance, the vital force will be restored and the body will then be able to heal itself.

The question to be addressed is not 'What is the problem?' but rather 'WHY has this problem presented?'

"Symptoms, then, are in reality nothing but a cry from suffering organs."
    Jean-Martin Charcot

Symptoms serve as clues that lead you to the origin of the imbalance in the body. This could be a physical injury, an emotional upheaval, a mental trauma or a combination of these. The symptoms are merely an expression of the resultant disharmony.

Naturopaths believe that the WHOLE of a person must be treated, NOT simply a part, which seems to be playing up. This entails treating the person, rather than merely the disease and resultant symptoms that they present with.

The individual is just that; individual! Being unique means responding differently and so the sensible course of action MUST be that each person is treated in the way that they need and deserve to be treated.

As an 'eclectic' system of health care, Naturopathy draws on a vast array of tools such as nutrition, diet, supplementation, herbalism, homeopathy, detoxification, flower essences, tissue salts, aromatherapy, to name but a few. A careful selection from the therapies available will ensure a treatment plan tailored to suit only you.

    What is Homeopathy?

"Homeopathy...is the most complete medical science."
    Mahatma Gandhi

Homeopaths, like Naturopaths believe that a symptom is there for a reason. It is regarded as an attempt by the body to resist or throw out a disease. As such it is an important sign which the homeopath can use to identify a remedy suited to the individual.

Many medicines are used to suppress the body's symptoms and the cause of the disease is never dealt with.

Homeopathy focuses on a TRUE cure. The appropriate remedy is identified by taking into account emotional, physical, spiritual and mental characteristics, idiosyncracies, as well as responses to everyday and life-changing events.

This is known as a constitutional remedy. It will strengthen the body and encourage the vital force to deal with the root cause of the problem. The body is then able to heal itself.

Once the cause of the distress has been dealt with there is no need for the body to produce the symptoms.

Homeopathy is an effective treatment of the person as a whole, addressing physical and emotional imbalances, yet it is gentle enough to be used during pregnancy and even by newborns, as well as by the elderly and infirm. It has the further advantage of being completely safe alongside allopathic treatment (conventional medicine), not causing side-effects and being non-addictive.

Every patient is unique and deserves a treatment plan tailored to suit their individual needs.

"There have been two great revelations in my life. The first was bebop, the second was homeopathy."
    Dizzy Gillespie

    About Naturopathy & Homeopathy #04

    What conditions can be treated?

Naturopathy and Homeopathy treat the whole person. As a result the list if conditions that can be treated is infinite. The PERSON rather than the disease is treated. As the vital force is stimulated, the imbalance within the body is corrected. The ailment is simply a manifestation of this imbalance. Therefore the end result is that balance and harmony within is restored, and as there is no longer any need for the body to protest, the symptoms will be relieved.

Many people first consult a Naturopath or Homeopath after suffering distressing symptoms for some time, and after finding that conventional medicine fails to provide relief, or does provide relief but only with unpleasant side-effects.
